WEBINAR on the session about NRENs and educational technology
NRENs and educational technology
The NREN community is actively working on developing and improving their support to the educational institutions. With specialised topics we would like to discuss possibilities for future collaborations, challenges and good practices. The workshop is intended to be mainly discussion based around key topics of interest. The discussion would be facilitated by a group of NRENs (including Jisc, SURFNet, UNIT, SUNET, CARNET, GARR, Internet2, Unizin).
Current topics include: joint procurement for LMS, Digital Learning Environment, eduID, learning analytics, open educational resources...etc)

In the beginning of 2019 a Europe wide survey is going to be conducted by GÉANT to map the existing activities of NRENs to support their educational institutions beyond connectivity (e.g. innovative projects and existing services for education) and also to explore their interest in this area. Based on the outcome of the survey, GÉANT plans to invite 5-8 NRENs who already invest substantially in educational services, and who have comparable agenda’s on topics that could use or need European collaboration, for a workshop in April 2019.
During the workshop, the NRENs explore opportunities to collaborate. The aim of the workshop is to identify three promising topics, and to define a first draft for a collaborative project. Projects can be aimed at knowledge-sharing, developing services, joined procurement, etc. Each project identifies one NREN that will be in the lead of this project.

At the TNC19 workshop we intend to build from the result of the April workshop:
- GÉANT presents the results of the survey and the workshop.
- 3 NRENs that make substantial investments in educational support for their members give a short presentation on the way they work.
- The leading NRENs present the three collaborative projects
- In three groups, participants of the session can join one project, to discuss the aim and the roadmap of the project
